Proudly announce that Jesslyn's artwork:
"After Mt Fuji" was selected as part of the prestigious ArtExpress 2021 at the Art Gallery of NSW.
Exhibition was on 4th Feb - 5th April 2021.
Artist's Statement: Visiting Japan inspired me to use my body of work to consider the hybridisation of the cultures of East and West by using the landscape conventions of both cultures. The landscape of Japan were lush and vibrant, vastly different from the dry and dusty landscapes of Australia. Using dry point etching in reference to both the traditional craft of Japanese woodblock printing and European conventions of engraving, I represent a hybrid landscape that shifts from traditional Asian landscapes to scenes of Australia. In doing so, I explore the similarities and unique qualities of the different landscapes through recognisable cultural symbols.
For everyone who is not able to attend in person at the NSW Art Gallery, Sydney, Australia. Herewith, I invite you to visit ARTEXPRESS 2021 virtual tour.
